More about Family Tree Acupuncture

Lainey Pedley (Elaine Smallwood) is the business owner of Family Tree Acupuncture, a registered Chinese Medicine Acupuncturist, Midwife and Nurse. Her motivation is to assist women and their families to achieve optimal mental and physical health.

Lainey has a Masters in Applied Science (Acupuncture) and uses an integrated approach alongside her patients’ other health and medical practitioners. Both Western and Chinese medicine have their strengths. At Well Woman it is believed that an integrated, multi-disciplinary treatment approach ensures each individual receives the best possible outcome for their health.

Women’s health issues are at the forefront of her interests, in addition to family and general health concerns. She uses Chinese Medicine to help couples through the challenges of infertility and provides natural fertility and IVF support. Her emphasis is on preconception and pregnancy care; vital to a healthy mum and baby. Of course Lainey manages all pregnancy related conditions, postpartum and breastfeeding issues.

She confidently supports the needs of all throughout the ages from babies to the elderly, using acupuncture and Chinese medicine therapies to successfully treat many areas of physical and mental health concern.

Lainey’s acupuncture technique is gentle and effective and may incorporate cupping, moxibustion (heat therapy), dietary therapy and lifestyle advice to restore the body’s natural balance.

She has worked as a remedial massage therapist on elite athletes working toward Commonwealth and Olympic level competition and although works as an acupuncturist can provide remedial relief from pain and rehabilitation from sports injuries.

Working in both London and Edinburgh for several years has allowed her to gain international experience, expanding her skills as a health facilitator and practitioner over the last 20 years.

As a speaker at three large tertiary hospitals, she provides excellence in education to midwives and practitioners alike. She runs Birthing Workshops and has been a HypnoBirthing, then Calmbith practitioner since the programmes inception in 2004. She has extensive experience working with women whose pregnancies are considered high risk and has a close rapport with a number of obstetricians who find her work invaluable to their own practice.

Lainey is passionate about using traditional Chinese medicine to assist women and their families towards better health. She is registered with the Chinese Medicine Board of Australia (AHPRA), is a member of the Australian Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine Association (AACMA) and is also a member of the Golden Key International Honours society for academic excellence.

She is registered with major health funds enabling her patients to access private health insurance rebates not only for acupuncture but her birthing workshops as well.
