About Evatt House

Evatt House is a proud and passionate college community well known for our sporting excellence and also for giving back to the wider community through our exceptional charity efforts.

Since our establishment in 1990, the Evatt House community has always been known as the country kid’s college. That’s not to say that it’s only country kids that come here. We also have numerous people come from Sydney and interstate, and also about 10% international students also. Typically we do get a majority of country students come to our college though, which when combined with our college pride and traditions, is why Evatt House is known as the college best recognized for its spirit, enthusiasm and mass participation in all aspects of college life!

Evatt House is a self-catered college consisting of mainly 10 share units. Each unit has roughly 5 returners and 5 first years, making for social and friendly environment. In each block there is also an RA (Residential Assistant) who is selected by the University for their outstanding leadership and involvement in all aspects of the Evatt House community. The RA’s are responsible for the pastoral care of residents within each block and making sure they have the full college experience whilst living at Evatt House. The team is lead by the Coordinator Liam Mowbray who overseas the running of the college.

At Evatt we have such an incredibly vibrant and spirited college culture, full of leaders, scholarship holders and sportspeople. Over the years Evatt has celebrated many graduates, a large number of university medallists, and a majority of victories in the intercollegiate sports cup and in the intercollegiate arts shield.

At Evatt we have a huge emphasis on our sport. Since the beginning of the Intercollegiate sports cup in 1990 Evatt House has celebrated 15 out of 22 victories, which is approximately 65%; great odds considering the other 35% is spread out between the 3 other colleges at the University of Newcastle. Not only this but Evatt House is an amazing environment for elite athletes to live due to its close proximity to the sports fields, gym, pool, physiotherapy and doctors, and Evatt House proudly attracts countless national and international level athletes to live and train at our college each year, many of whom reside on University of Newcastle Sports Scholarships!
