Essentially Avocado

We moved to the beautiful historic town of Childers in 1983. Childers township is situated on rich red volcanic soil hills in the Wide Bay Region of Queensland. Our orchard - 'Avocado Acres', is the oldest established avocado orchard in the Childers area and borders the northern end of town.

'Avocado Acres' has 39 homes, a hospital, another orchard and some land owned by the local Council around our boundary. Because of the close proximity of family homes to our orchard, we are particularly careful in tree and fruit management. We actively practiced Integrated Pest Management before it became a recognised form of 'best practice' management for orchards.

Our orchards is now one of the smaller orchards in this area. We do all the picking - most varieties of fruit need to be individually cut from the tree. We no longer pack our fruit; they are sent by bins to a local pack house that packs them and sends the fruit to predetermined markets in Australia and South East Asia. The fruit is graded before packing, into Premium, 1st Class and 2nd Class fruit - dependant on the amount of misshapen fruit or skin marking. We retain our 2nd Class fruit, ripen them, press them and make our body products.

After 28 years, much research and experiments, we found a way to press the avocado to get the pure oil which we use to make body lotions, creams and soaps. We purchased a press and now our waste is only the seed in the fruit and the skin.

We call our products 'Essentially Avocado', because we use our avocado oil. Our products contain no artificial ingredients.
