We believe in raising animals humanely and sustainably. We want our pigs to have the best life they can with lots of room to roam and behave as piggies should. Pigs actually eat quite a lot of grass when they have access to it. We believe this stress free upbringing as well as access to lots of green pasture results in better tasting meat.
But raising pigs like this requires a lot of infrastructure, special fencing, shelter, wallows, water. Pastures need to be managed and rotated and outdoor animals need to be well cared for. They also need to be supplemented with feed twice a day. This is quite hands on, manually labour intensive and hard work. It means that only sustainable numbers can be supported. The only way for this kind of farming to be viable is with support from like minded locals that want access to better meat.
We appreciate being able to grow our own meat and hope to be able to provide this naturally grass fed rare heritage breed pork to locals who aren’t able to farm their own. That is why we practice a ‘Community Supported Agriculture’ model where the community provides support to the farmer by subscribing to an order of a whole, half or quarter pig in return for access to truly free range, grass fed pork at an affordable price.
