Guided by Horses

Guided by Horses is the equine assisted therapy arm of SevenEight Psychology, and offers a unique therapy experience, where horses are co-therapists, facilitators and teachers. Equine Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP) is a growing therapy intervention that is suitable for working with a range of psychological difficulties as well as personal growth and development.

SevenEight Psychology is owned and operated by Amii Larsen, a qualified psychologist with a Masters degree in cognitive behaviour therapy and an undergraduate degree and honours in psychology. Amii has trained in Equine Assisted Psychotherapy at the Equine Psychotherapy Institute.

Equine Psychotherapy SA offers:

- psychotherapy or personal development where you will work with horses to improve psychological well-being

- the Equine Psychotherapy Institute model of EAP which is grounded in evidence based psychological theory, including Gestalt psychotherapy and mindfulness. The therapy utlises focused psychological strategies including cognitive and behavioural approaches, problems solving and stress management and takes an 'I-thou' approach to therapy, where horses and clients alike are valued for their uniqueness and individuality.

What EAP is not:

- therapy for horses

- horsemanship lessons

- horse riding lessons

- hippotherapy (a combination of occupational, physical and speech therapy)
