Reaching young people

To affect change in young people’s lives, you first have to be able to reach them. That is why we are designing the Kids Youth and Outreach Centre to be a fun and exciting place that young people will want to visit again and again. The centre will be a cool space with great facilities, offering a host of free games and activities to help engage young people. The centre will become a community that young people can belong to and become involved in.

Positioning for change

Wouldn’t it be great if there was some way to instantly transform young people’s lives? Unfortunately there are no quick fixes or magic bullets. So what does it take to get through to a young person? Just think back to someone who had a great influence on your life. Did you have a good relationship with them? Did you trust them? A relationship of trust is one of the most powerful ways to create change in a young person’s life. Our approach is to get to know young people; to seek to understand them and their circumstances; and with time and commitment, build strong relationships founded on respect and trust that will allow us to begin to impact their lives.

Empowerment
--------------------
The key to empowering a young person is self worth. To have good self worth a young person must have a strong sense of:

• Belonging – the security of knowing they are loved and accepted for who they are (not what they do)
• Competence/Mastery – the confidence in knowing they are good at something
• Independence – the strength to stand on their own
• Purpose – the direction and passion to drive them to achieve

When these things are in place a young person becomes truly empowered. No longer a victim of their circumstances, now the master of their life.

Support services

Endless Horizons will provide support to young people to help them grow their self worth through:

• Relationships and mentoring – providing positive role models and someone who cares
• Educational and life skills courses – to expand their minds and provide tools for life
• Counselling – someone to help navigate them through the tough times
• Training and employment opportunities – to provide independence and help fulfil their purpose
• Additional support staff including youth workers and an in-house nurse

Outreach

In addition to working with young people, Endless Horizons will be active in the community providing outreach assistance open to all ages for those in need. Initially we will be providing food parcels, meals, clothing and toiletries with a view to expanding the support into other areas.

Legacy
----------
That’s not the end of our vision. We want to create young leaders that can carry on the work that they themselves benefited from. To build a self sustaining legacy of hope that can continue on into the future for generations to come.
