Elysium is the first sensory-art space of its kind and is open to the public in Newcastle. Inside this experiential space is a sensory feast of colour, texture, light, sound and aromas. Curl up in soft comfy chairs, lounge under the galaxy lights, and soak in sensory indulgence.
Elysium is the advancement of PhD research by artist Bliss Cavanagh and will continue to be an evolving space. Bliss’s research aims to create and deliver an innovative facility that has the potential to support mental health and wellbeing in the general population.
Her work is drawn from her experience of living with Tourette syndrome with a focus on the importance of mental health and wellbeing. Her research examines the power that art could hold to extend the benifits of multisensory rooms to the general population in a unique and accessible way. Bliss will also investigate the potential that the sensory-art space could provide to reduce stress in the general population and promote mental health and wellbeing in the community.
