The Elkanah journey… a vision ten years in the making.

After suffering a burnout in 2003 and discovering the immense benefit of visiting a restoration retreat and spending time with a mentor and life coach, the owner of Elkanah dreamed of creating a rural retreat; a place of restoration surrounded by natural beauty; a place for others to come and find wholeness through personal interaction and the natural surrounds.

The search began for a property that was close to a rural city and had a feeling of space and freedom. Elkanah…125 acres of undulating hills covered in bush rock and eucalypts with an abundance of wildlife, a spring fed creek and panoramic views. Some 36 species of bird have been catalogued on the property and Black Wallabies, echidna, goanna, deer as well as an abundance of kangaroo’s can be seen frequenting the dams and bush areas. A feature of the property is the remains of a homestead and grave of one of the early settlers. Later, it was discovered that Charles Sturt, the famous Australian explorer, had granted land to one of his convict workers and part of that land was Elkanah.
