Term 1 has been very short, but very busy, nevertheless. With a lot of primary school swim carnivals taking place, it is very rewarding to see many of our swimmers competing so well and achieving great results. Keep up the good work and best of luck for those competing at Districts and hopefully Regionals after that.

Our racing “Summer Series” at the start of Term was very successful and we had to cap entries early. We had 40 swimmers learning invaluable race skills, most of whom went on to swim at All Junior heats on March 4th . For many, this was their first taste of a major carnival and all swimmers were well prepared. A good number made top 10 and go through to Semi-Finals in April, which is testament to the success of the Summer Series. Well done to all involved.

The next racing opportunity is the Essendon District Aquatic Encouragement meet at Vic. University Footscray campus pool on March 26th, Entries date has been extended to March 21st – information / entry forms are at the desk.

Important:
CHILDREN ARE NOT ALLOWED IN THE POOL BEFORE THEIR LESSON STARTS.
It is imperative for everybody’s safety that children only enter the pool when their instructor is ready. Please help us to maintain a safe environment for all pool users.
Swim caps are required to be worn for every child. We pride ourselves on maintaining a clean and healthy place for your children. Reduced hair in the pool and filtration helps us to maintain this.

Make Up Lessons

Charges no longer apply for make-up classes with short notice, however we require 24 hours notice to be eligible for make-up lessons.

You must notify on the above number prior to the lesson if you wish to have a make-up lesson. Messages are time-stamped, so please leave a message if we cant answer your call.
A maximum 2 make up lessons are permitted per term. (Except for long-term injuries/illness with medical documentation).
This policy is balanced for cost recovery of teacher’s wages for providing the make-up lesson. We do not get the opportunity to utilise the make-up lesson if we do not have adequate notice..

No Notice = No Make-up

Caps, Bathers & goggles
Caps must be worn in all lessons to reduce hair in the pool, as well as being better for a swimmer’s hair. Goggles are required for optimal development of swimming. Please invest in a functional pair of goggles, so as to minimize disruption to classes.
We also ask that swimmers not wear board shorts
as they are very bulky in the water and create significant drag.

New parents and swimmers
-Class times carry over from term to term, provided payment is made prior to term’s end.
- We run with the school terms and break during holidays.
- Fees are per school term.
- You are not required to fill out a re- enrolment form from term to term.
- If you are not happy with aspects of your child’s class, please let us know. We set high standards for our staff and we welcome feedback, positive or negative.
PRE SCHOOLERS
When pre-schoolers start swimming it takes time to achieve small goals. Young children don’t have the cognitive ability to process all components simultaneously. With a combination of natural fear and lack of buoyancy, it usually takes until the age of 4 and beyond to notice significant development.

We focus on the small components (building blocks) for the strokes, The kick, bubbles, breathing in, arm rotation, eyes in water etc., so that by the time children are ready to put their strokes together, they have a familiar understanding of what is required.

As parents, you can assist in several ways. Water play, without being a chore, is the most obvious thing that can be done. In the absence of this, getting children to practice getting hair wet, and putting their faces in the water and wearing their goggles in the bath is a simple, yet effective way you can help your child.
