Welcome to both a new year and a new literacy service in the Peel region of Western Australia!
My name is Amanda and I am an experienced Special Education teacher who has decided to change my focus from school classrooms to private practice catering to those who experience difficulty in our current school system.
I am particularly interested in teaching children with difficulties such as Dyslexia/ADHD/Autism as well as those that just need a little more time and a multisensory approach to grasp what is being taught at school.
I am a parent to two boys who have their own learning challenges, particularly my eldest son who has Dyslexia/Dyspraxia/SPD/Irlen's and some Auditory and Visual Processing issues as well.
I have personally run the gauntlet of specialists and expensive therapies. Most notably in recent times was Speech Therapy.
My son attended a weekly session of 'literacy support' with a Speech Therapist for two years and, while it has been helpful, progress was very slow and very expensive at $130 per session!
After watching child after child struggle to learn basic literacy skills, I decided to take the bull by the horns and offer a fast, effective, individualised, one-to-one teaching service at a much more affordable cost to other parents who are struggling to help their children.
I went in search of an effective evidence-based multisensory structured language (MSL) program which would meet my requirements and found, right here in WA, a program called Cracking the ABC Code (www.crackingtheabccode.com).
Bingo! So I rushed out and gained accreditation to teach this specialised program from Dr Lillian Fawcett and we are off and running!
