More about Delta Downs Station

The Kurtijar Tribe invite you to share our land and history on our Gulf of Carpentaria cattle station, Delta Downs. Delta Downs is over 1 million wild acres running close to 40,000 head of cattle. We’re not just about cattle though. We also have pristine beaches and wetlands offering great birdwatching and wildlife spotting. There are abundant fishing opportunities close to our remote coastal campsites.

We recommend you start by joining one of our tag-along tours which depart regularly from Maggieville Outstation which is halfway between Karumba and Normanton. Tours commence at 08:30 and return to Maggieville by approximately 3:00 pm. Your guide will brief you around 08:15 before we set off and will provide detailed information at each of the stops throughout the day. Regular updates and special sighting of wildlife will be communicated to you and questions answered over the UHF radio as our small convoy travels across the wide lands. (If you haven’t got a UHF set we will lend you one.)

The tour will take you on a 4WD journey across around 150km of diverse country including pretty billabongs, extensive wetlands and plenty of birdlife and other animals. Along the way your guides will tell you about their cultural connection to this land and it’s flora & fauna. You’ll also hear the history of the cattle station which has now been owned, managed and staffed by the local aboriginal people since the 1980s.

Remote area coastal camping is also available to travellers who are fully self-sufficient. Prices and availability are on application.
