Health and Fitness Centre classes 2015

a) Therapeutic classes - Safe, low to moderate intensity classes
• Strong People Stay Young: The program increases the strength of your muscles, helps maintain bones, and improves your balance, coordination, and your ability to get around. Following this program helps reduce the signs and symptoms of many chronic diseases, including arthritis. Regular participation for 2 sessions per week has many benefits for older people and those returning to exercise after a break or illness. Mondays/Wednesdays 1.30 pm-2.30 pm, Tuesdays/Thursdays 9am- 10am. Instructor, Paula.

• Healthy Start: is open to everyone, especially those over 50, and those who haven’t exercised for a while. It is designed to be safe for people with stable, long term health conditions such as heart disease and bone and joint problems. Mondays 8.30 am, Thursdays 10.30am.


• HEART SMART - Cardiac Rehabilitation Exercise & Education. This is a Heart Foundation program, delivered by our Physio and Exercise Physiologist. Heart Smart is a structured program aimed at helping people who have had a heart event to develop a heart-friendly lifestyle. It consists of exercise and educational sessions.
• Education topics are designed to help you to modify your cardiac risk factors. These include:
• maintaining a healthy weight
• Smoking cessation
• Healthy eating
• Managing stress and depression
• Physical activity
• Understanding your medication
• Returning to work and other lifestyle factors
• This program is by referral only, which means you need to make an appointment for an initial assessment with your Physio (0260763200) before commencing the program.
• Time : Tuesdays 1.30pm-3pm

• Beginner Tai Chi: Tuesdays at 3.30pm. Learn the moves for the Early Bird Tai Chi classes at 8.30am on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Call Paula 0260762486

• JAC’s REHAB (Thursdays 1.30pm – 2.30pm) and FIT FOR LIFE (Tuesdays 11am – 12pm). These group sessions are offered to support people following their personally designed exercise program after surgery, illness, or injury, and for those with diabetes. Contact Jacinta for a referral.

• Backs and Bellies: Mondays at 11am. Increase core and back strength, balance and flexibility. Mondays 11am- 12pm. Liz the Physio.

• Yoga: Yoga is an ancient practice that incorporates gentle exercise, breath control (breathing practices called pranayama) and meditation. The physical foundation of yoga is a series of structured poses (asanas) performed with breath awareness. The health benefits of regular yoga practice may include alleviation of high blood pressure, improved posture and circulation, and a sense of wellbeing. Thursday evenings with Val at 7pm. Cost $11.

• Lighten up to a Healthy Lifestyle – This is a small group support program which encourages people to be more active, enjoy healthy food, cope with stress and manage their weight. It involves an exercise program to suit your level of fitness and healthy eating plans to guide your food choices. Regular checks on the scales help keep you on track, along with the group support and motivation. If you’d like to attend, please call Kerry 0260763233 for a pre- program appointment. Time: Wednesdays 6.30pm – 8pm

• Make a Move– This is a program designed to help prevent falls whilst improving balance. It consists of exercises that increase strength, bone mass and flexibility, develops balance and quickens reaction helps to reduce the likelihood of having a fall and also lessens the severity should a fall occur. Please make an appointment with Jacinta (0260763200) before commencing this program.

B) Moderate – vigorous exercise programs
• Fun & Fitness Cardio:
a) Mondays 4pm – 5pm. This class is always changing to meet the group’s needs. We use a range of equipment and exercises to boost metabolism and burn fat, while building your exercise confidence and overall fitness. Beginners start gently, but there’s enough intensity for those who want to go harder.
b) Wednesdays 5:15- 6:15pm. Circuit training is an excellent way to improve mobility, strength and stamina. The circuit comprises of 6 to 10 strength exercises performed for 20 – 30 seconds each, with short cardio bursts to keep the heart rate up. The total number of circuits performed during a training session varies, but everyone works at their own pace. Beginners welcome.

c) Fun and Fitness Fridays – 9am – 10am – This class combines strength and huff n puff in lots of different ways. It could be a circuit, or tabbattas or strength training using weights and your own body weight. Always at the right level for YOU. From beginners to advanced, you work as hard as you choose. Active play childcare.
• BOOT CAMP - If you enjoy military style rough and tumble, using your body weight to perform a range of challenges to build strength and endurance. You’ll grow to love burpees, squats and other crazy exercises. Trainers Kerry and Jesse. Mondays 5:15pm – 6pm

• Power Bar – Using low weights and high repetition movements, you will burn fat, gain strength and quickly produce lean muscle conditioning as you squat, press, lift and curl to music. Wednesdays 9am, Thursdays 5.15pm.

• Cardio Power Puff - Learning the moves for Power Bar can be tough at first, so this class combines excellent coaching with aerobic intervals on a variety of gym equipment. Tuesdays 5.15pm with Paula.

• Total Body 30 – (30 minute class) Designed to strengthen and sculpt your body targeting major muscle groups using various equipment and body weight. Total Body 30 incorporates bursts of cardio to strengthen your core, improve your balance and work the whole body! Instructor Jesse
Mondays 9:45-10:15am, Wednesdays 9:45 – 10:15am, Fridays 10:15am – 10:45am (with childcare)
• Total Body 60 – (60 minute class) incorporates bursts of cardio into movements intended to help you tone all major muscles. Strengthen your core, improve your balance and work the whole body! Free to members. Casuals $10 per session.
Saturdays 8am; Sundays 4.30pm
• Childminding: Mondays 9.45 am – 10:15am; Wednesday 9am-10.45am; Fridays 9am-10.45am. Cost $2 per child, or $5 for family.
