Concongella hall

The Concongella Hall, 71 Concongella School Road, Concongella, has a rural setting nearby the Concongella Primary School. It has rudimentary open grassed surrounds bound by a post and wire fence.

The single storey, vertical galvanised corrugated iron, postwar Regional Modern styled Concongella Hall is characterised by a shallow pitched gable roof form clad in galvanised corrugated iron and having shallow elongated ventilators along the ridge line. Of particular interest are the tapered walls, and elevated nature of the design, timber framed windows and doors, exposed timber rafters and the corner porch supported by a simple timber post on the angle. A steel framed tank stand with timber deck and recent round water tank are situated at one end of the hall, while at the other end appears to be a skillion addition.

The design of the Concongella Hall appears to have emanated from postwar architectural developments. After World War 2, the International style had a world-wide impact, and the salient features of this style were transformed into regional designs that were simple, light and fresh with an unpretentious elegance.

The first regional interpretation of modern architecture was published in Robin's Boyd's Victorian Modern in 1947, and the style also included low-pitched roof forms and simple geometry.
