Christ Church was associated with Queen’s School (initially Christ Church Collegiate School), later Queen’s College, and provided school chaplaincy. Queen’s School was one of the three Anglican boys’ schools in Adelaide. An honour roll board for Queen’s School from World War One may be found in the Parish Hall.

Christ Church was also the religious home for Creveen Girls’ School, based in Kermode Street, and the rector of Christ Church acted as school chaplain.

Christ Church is open during office hours, offering the public a peaceful place for private prayer and contemplation.

Bishop Augustus Short obtained a grant and purchased an acre of land in early 1848. The foundation stone was laid on Ascension Day, 1848 by Bishop Short and the Governor, Colonel Robe. On 20th December 1849, the church was consecrated by Bishop Short and opened for public worship. It was used as the pro-Cathedral until St Peter's Cathedral opened in 1877.

The aesthetic beauty, sense of history, serenity and acoustics of Christ Church North Adelaide make it a favourite venue for weddings and community events.
