The Rural Fire Service (RFS) is the volunteer arm of the Queensland Fire and Rescue Service (QFRS) and is part of the larger Department of Community Safety. The RFS covers 93% of the of the state and is supported by QFRS Rural Operations. Rural Fire Brigades respond to the outbreak of bush fires within their local area and in surrounding areas in support of other rural fire brigades and emergency service workers.
