Chapel of Change International

Chapel of Change has performed on some of the largest stages in the world, some of the most ancient stages, and also on some of the most barren sites in the world.

Founded in 1994; Chapel of Change is a highly innovative Australian arts company working in visually powerful physical theatre, film and dance forms. The company has toured its theatre works internationally for well over ten years, and is the recipient of TWO Australian Green Room awards, including ‘Most innovative New Form Theatre.’ (Tearoom)

As its name implies, Chapel of Change is an arts company that tends to defy categorisation, in 2013 it completed its first feature length film, Mother Mary Sex & Death. The film was officially selected to premier at the Vladivostok International Film Festival.

In theatre, the companies most widely travelled, time honoured and award winning production, ‘The Descent’ was acclaimed in the Australian magazine ‘Eureka Street’, as one of the most memorable Australian productions of the decade.

The Descent has been acclaimed around the world, having been staged on four continents. It opens cultural doors and has taken the company on many talked-about journeys, included two historical tours through the Middle East supported by Australian Embassies in Jordan, Lebanon, Egypt and Syria. The company was the first Australian Arts company to tour this region, and was selected to open the 9th Cairo International Festival at the Cairo Opera House. It has received an Australian Green Room nomination for Best Direction (Dance) and the International Association of Theatre Critics awarded Rainsford Best Male Performer for The Descent

Other works such as The Nightgardener, premiering in Marseille, France and was selected to open the Fitaz Festival in South America, continue to draw attention to the companies work.
