More about Caulfield Primary School

The attractive heritage buildings of Caulfield Primary provide generous well resourced,
air-conditioned learning spaces and a kindergarten on site. The school buildings have
been refurbished and we are building a multipurpose hall to cater for the many
events we have at our school. The well planned and maintained gardens and play
areas provide a safe and secure environment, where children enjoy
a variety of outdoor activities and understand the importance
of environmental sustainability.

The school has strong relationships with many community groups and
parents enthusiastically participate in classroom, fundraising and social
activities to support innovation and ongoing improvements.

Caulfield Primary has a genuine welcoming, inclusive feel and a culture
of care, support and expectation in educational achievement.

Teachers

Caulfield Primary School has a highly professional and caring team of teachers.

Our teachers know how to engage children and make learning lively and fun. Teachers at Caulfield Primary maintain a high level of challenge for children. At the same time they know what the children are capable of and learning builds upon children’s previous knowledge so that they experience success.

Teachers continuously monitor and assess children to develop future learning experiences. They understand each student’s abilities, and plan flexible programs with varied approaches to cater for the different needs
and learning styles of individual children.

At Caulfield Primary teachers recognise that a
child’s attitude to school is an important
factor in achievement. They work hard
to create an environment in which
children feel valued, safe and involved.

There are three broad levels in the curriculum at Caulfield Primary School. These are based on what is known about how children learn at different stages of their development and what their learning needs are.

Prep year (Level 1)

The Preparation Unit is a caring and supportive start to school, building self-esteem, excitement around learning, coordination, creativity and social values.

Years 1- 4 (Levels 2 + 3)

The Foundation Units individually develop the skills and knowledge for language and mathematics, with health, social and creative emphasis.

Years 5+ 6 (Level 4)

The Building Units further develop the foundations with thinking, application and probelm solving to encourage a deep understanding, cooperative behaviours and leadership potential.

This process has proven very successful in preparing students for secondary college.

Japanese LOTE

LOTE (Language Other Than English) is taught successfully through immersion in many schools in Australia. At Caulfield Primary children learn Japanese by being immersed in it - in the same way they learn their mother tongue. In Japanese classes only Japanese is spoken by the teacher.

Your child has an innate ability to acquire any language completely at primary school age. As a regular component of your child’s school day, learning
LOTE by immersion is a natural and cumulative process.

There are many benefits to learning a second language.

OSHC

Caulfield Primary Out of School Hours Care (OSHC) is a non-profit service for
children enrolled at the school.
We provide a range of leisure and recreational activities for children but allow
them to initiate their own play with their friends or have quiet time if they want to.
Our aim is to promote the positive development of the children in a safe and
familiar environment.

The OSHC is conveniently located in its own
building within the school grounds.

We provide breakfast in the morning and
nutritious snacks in the afternoon.

Children can be booked in for casual
or regular sessions.
