A Griffith University team of urban planning and emergency management specialists worked with the Cardwell community through a series of seven community workshops to identify a desirable and preferred future for Cardwell and district.
This process involved 24 community groups and key stakeholders from the Cardwell area and led to the creation of a vision for the town and district’s future and a strategic Action Plan to guide management actions and development toward that vision.
The intent of this whole-of-community Action Plan is to allow the community to consider long term strategic (i.e. 20+ years) issues and opportunities to recovery from the cyclone, resilience to future cyclones and impacts from other natural hazards, and to engage with the various planning processes of local, state and federal government and non-government (NGO) agencies.
The Cardwell community believes it is crucial that local, state and Commonwealth government agencies are conversant with their collective aspirations and future options, hence the purpose of this Action Plan.
