Canberra Student Housing Co-operative

The Canberra Student Housing Co-operative is a group of students commited to providing secure, affordable, quality housing for students in Canberra, based on a co-operative model.

We are motivated by the current rental crisis in Canberra, and believe that students can be part of the solution. We formed to create this solution, believing that a place to live while studying can be much more than a crash pad. We seek to create a home that fosters opportunity for personal expression and shared learning, a home where people share responsibility and can learn from and support each other.

We operate 5 units in Havelock House in association with the Havelock Housing Association and Community Housing ACT. The first unit opened in October 2011, the second in February 2012, and the third and fourth in July 2012. We got a fifth unit in April 2013! We are commited to further expansion in consultation with government and other not-for-profit organisations.

The Co-operative is governed by its primary members, consisting of the residents and several non-residential directors. If you would like to get involved, feel free to come along to one of our Sunday pot-luck dinners/meetings, or send us an email!
