More about Byron Bay Braunvieh

Byron Bay Braunvieh is part of Linden Farm at Broken Head near Byron Bay on the north coast of New South Wales. Our herd is Fullblood and Purebred Braunvieh stud cattle, F1-Hybrids (Braunvieh x Wagyu cross and Braunvieh x Murray Grey cross) and Murray Grey commercial cattle.

Linden Farm comprises 110 hectares of rolling basalt hills of the picturesque Newrybar Escarpment and adjacent coastal flats behind Broken Head and Seven Mile Beach.

Braunvieh (German, "brown cattle") is a breed of domestic cattle originating in Switzerland and distributed throughout the Alpine region. The Braunvieh was originally a triple-purpose breed, used for milk production, for meat and for draught work, although the modern Braunvieh in Australia is predominantly a beef breed.

Braunvieh are uniform brown or grey-brown in colour; the nose is black and encircled by a pale ring. Braunvieh are usually horned, but crossbreeding has given rise to polled animals. Cows typically weigh 550–750 kg and bulls 1000–1300 kg.

Given their dual-purpose origin, milk production in Braunvieh cows is exceptional, adding to their excellent mothering traits and calf growth rates.
