Baw Baw Shire is within Victoria’s major eastern growth corridor and has seen significant residential and business growth over the past ten years.

The economy is diverse and includes a number of industry sectors including: Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing; Manufacturing; Construction; Health; Education & Training, retail and Tourism.

The region is linked to Melbourne via the Princes Highway and Monash Freeway providing easy access for business into domestic, inter-state and international markets.

The Shire covers an area of 4,031 square kilometres, of which 1,631 square kilometres is arable land with the rest being either towns and townships or State and National Parks.

Traditionally the area was settled for timber and dairy production and with these industries still important today, the region has grown into a significant manufacturing and dairy production/ processing region. Manufacturing, engineering, retail, horticulture, tourism, wholesale and business support services are also significant. The area is diversifying with new business sectors developing.
