The Burnie Scout Group is in the Hellyer District of Scouts Tasmania.
Hellyer District takes in three municipalities on the Northwest Coast and is part of the Northwest Region. The district is named after Henry Hellyer, Chief Surveyor for the Van Diemans Land Company 1827-1832.
Hellyer, sometimes working alone, spent months in the bush making the first detailed maps of some 20% of the whole island. The badge bears not only Hellyer's name, but two surveyors marks, the smaller of which gives the location of the district.
