Bungendore Park

Most of the park consists of lateritic (gravel) plateau with elevations up to 280 metres. The lateritic soils progressively thin to the west and where the surface has been eroded reveal the ancient granitic bedrock. The park and adjacent Wungong Gorge provide a visual relief to the built up areas and a green backdrop to the City of Armadale. Bungendore Park covers 498 hectares and is a remnant bush and of regional importance. Apart from being home to many plants and animals, it is used for research purposes and field work by schools. The bushland is an important natural heritage and recreational amenity used for bushwalking, photography, nature study and other leisure pursuits.
In recognising the ecological and social values of the park, the Management Committee has implemented a number of management initiatives, including rehabilitation of disused gravel pits with indigenous seedlings, confining management vehicles to certain roads to reduce dieback infection risk, and developing bush-walk trails with information shelters and wayside signs.
