Britton is a name that has been synonymous with sawmilling and the timber industry ever since Britton Bros Pty Ltd was established in the Blackwood rich swamplands of North West Tasmania. In 1907, two brothers Mark and Elijah Britton came to Tasmania in search of prime farm land. After realising the value of large stands of timber they turned their trade to sawmilling, surviving the Great Depression, mills burning down and bush fires.
