Briars Cricket

“The Briars”, was the name of the house in which our first president, Jack Stone, lived in at The Appian Way, Burwood. Today the name plate of Jacks home resides at The Briars clubhouse - the official home for our family of sports, only a couple of hundred meters away from its original location.

Unlike any other club, the spirit that has kept the Briars family so strong for almost 100 years in a common interest in sport and respect for fellow members. Our club is run by members for members.

Over the years The Briars have been through some testing times such as the
great depression and the Second World War where sixteen Briars sportsmen paid the supreme sacrifice. Experiences like these proved our unity and strength as a club.

Today’s Briars are fortunate that our forefathers prepared for the future. Briars
Sporting Club has recently merged with Greenlees Park Bowling Club. This is a
significant venture has meant cricket club will have closer access to all playing
and training grounds as well as improved social facilities. The park adjacent has
already been put to good use hosting the junior development programs of the
club.

The club does not consist of merely cricketers. There are also four other main
sports Rugby, Hockey, Squash and Bowls. A recent merger with Greenlees Park Bowling Club has enabled an increase in the quality of amenities and facilities offered at the club. It additionally means a person can begin playing for the club as a junior and be involved with the club, and our sport for their entire life!

Rothwell Park, Concord is the first grade ground. This picturesque oval has been the scene of a range of great triumphs for the club. In season 2006/07 the ground was voted as the number one ground in the competition.
