More about Brandon Park Football Club

Sahagian Sporting Club was founded in Melbourne in 1972 after many Armenians migrated here from Turkey. By coming together via the Armenian Church to continue the Armenian legacy, so was created the Armenian Church Sahagian Soccer Club, with the name “Sahagian” originating from our Armenian school in Istanbul.

In 1973 we joined the Victorian Soccer Federation and our home ground was at Elwood. However we temporarily had to move from there and between 1979 and 1989 our home ground was Mitcham. It wasn’t until 1990 that we moved back to our original home ground Elwood in 1992 Sahagian came to its current home ground at Freeway Reserve when it took over Brandon Park Soccer Club. In 1994 the club became incorporated and is today known as Armenian Community Sahagian Sporting Club Incorporated Brandon Park Soccer Club, Brandon Park Junior Soccer Club. To date one of Brandon Park Soccer Clubs biggest achievements has been building the Pavilion at Freeway Reserve where our community spends their time mingling with one another and celebrating various festivities. It cost approximately $700,000 to build, $400,000 of which was generously donated by our dedicated community.

The Pavilion holds, Trophies, flags and achievements to date, championship team photos are also proudly displayed for all to see how much the club has achieved over the last 37 years. One such achievement was our senior team becoming champions in Provisional League One. 2010 sees this group preparing themselves to play in State League 3.

Today the club has over 150 players, with a further 40 people involved in coaching, training, volunteering and assisting with the running of the teams and other aspects of the club. This group is supported by a team of 16 committee members who are responsible for the management and administration of the club at the strategic and operational level.

Brandon Park FC (Armenian Community Sahagian Sporting Club) respects the strong Armenian cultural influence that has ensured the success of this great club to date, however we also recognize that the club now has a bigger role to play in the wider community. We understand that the future of football and our club lies with our children and this is why we are encouraging junior player development to raise community awareness of the Brandon Park Football Club and football in general. We also want to encourage and create a better environment for families, sponsors, members and supporters to attend our games and enjoy the welcoming atmosphere at the club.

Given the clubs proud history and current position none of this would have been possible without the hard work and dedication of our predecessors, that is all our past presidents, committee, members, sponsors, supporters and volunteers, who were fuelled by the passion, loyalty and desire to help build a club that to this day is growing from strength to strength due to the continued support of all individuals currently involved with the club.
