Brady's View Bed & Breakfast is named after Matthew Brady who became known as "The Gentleman Bushranger" of Tasmania after escaping from the infamous penal settlement of Macquarie Harbour and then spending two years on the run from authorities with his gang, while engaging in various forms of crime and recklessness. Not long before he was recaptured he and a number of his followers camped on the rocky outcrop which is now called "Brady's Lookout" which has extensive views both up and down the Tamar River. They devised a plan to seize a ship and sail it to South Australia, however Matthew Brady was arrested while raiding a farm for provisions near Launceston before the plan could be carried out and although many colonists, a large number of whom were female, petitioned the Governor to show him mercy, Brady was hung in 1826.
