Bonwick & Jukes Precinct

Nestled in the far north of Moreland, a little further along Sydney Road is Fawkner. And in the very heart of Fawkner is the vibrant little shopping strip known as Bonwick Street & Jukes Road Shopping Precinct.

But don’t let the words “far north” discourage you. Though it’s filled with half a dozen hairdressing and beauty shops to make you glamorous to the heels, this retail-laden locale is worth the trip for the historic ambience and trip down memory lane. There’s a mix of new and old businesses that dot this two street shopping strip. Small shops cater to the local neighbourhood’s migrant inhabitants, the after –the-war Polish, Italians, Greeks to the newly arrived Lebanese, Afghans, and Iraqis.

Known to the locals this shopping precinct has seen many changes but it’s still servicing the area with the convenience of all the essentials; a pharmacy, the friendly newsagent, a major bank with the community conscious branch manager, an IGA and even an Australia Post Office. Freshly baked Turkish Anatolian bread, the best kebabs this side of Bell Street, yummy Italian pastries, and cafes can satisfy your hunger when you visit this precinct. There’s also the local fruit shop, the local pizza shop, a range of mini marts, bargain shops, plus a unique collection of one-of-a-kind boutiques for women, to browse in.

The Bonwick and Jukes precinct has plenty of car parking at the rear of the businesses. Over 150 car parking spaces!

The 509 bus runs down Jukes Road to service the precinct and stops almost in front of the little Italian café, a haven for the lovely elderly Italian men of the Fawkner community, who spend the day playing cards and sipping their espressos.
