BODA is a unique arts venue in the historic building of the Break O’Day Hotel in the sleepy Victorian town of Corindhap just south of Ballarat.
Built as a pit-stop for thirsty gold-rush miners the hotel sat vacant for a number of years before the current owners turned it into a wonderland of eclectic artistry and re-opened business in this no horse town. The revival of the Avenue of Honour that leads to the hotel entrance features giant sculptures by local artist Viktor Cebergs and was curated by the current owners Debra and Mark Kendell.
As well as hosting featured exhibitions and live music performances the hotel has been transformed into a work of art itself. Historical objects line the walls, a hallway painted as the universe leads you to the old billiard room where the front grille of a vintage car is fixed to the wall. There are cowboys and Indians, Egyptian artefacts and a giant mermaid float in the garden that now doubles as a performance space. BODA is a playground for adults who like to think outside the square.
A must-see destination for weekend day-trippers. Open to the public from 12am-8pm Saturdays and Sundays. Entry by donation.
Fully licensed. Light meals and snacks available.
