Addiction, especially drug addiction, is tearing apart many lives and families in our community. A team of experienced professionals and volunteers have come together and formed a committee to establish Bluebird House.
The lack of rehabilitation facilities and professionals here in Bacchus Marsh is damaging and we believe support can be placed back on families, support persons, volunteers and the community.
Bluebird House is facility we hope to establish – a recovery/rehab/retreat/transition house for teens and adults to reside for/after detox and rehab in order to attend to their needs for recovery and assist with ongoing support.
Bluebird House, is a Not for Profit facility, aimed at supporting local male and female teenagers and adults in a practical, positive and therapeutic way to end their active addiction and address their rehabilitation needs whilst living in supported 12 Step, therapeutic community model.
It is our aim to set up a residential living house. We are currently attempting to secure a property to run Bluebird House for clients in the early stages of recovery. It will be staffed with qualified alcohol and drug workers, counsellors and otherwise run by a roster system of volunteers that will be with the client to help support.
Our aim to provide an array of services that are designed to educate about addictive disorders, health responses, to engage in behaviour which promotes recovery, resensitizing and healthy functioning, encourage recovering addicts to develop coping mechanisms necessary for ongoing recovery and a healthy life, whilst living in residential care with the support from qualified staff at Bluebird House.
Bluebird House clients will be supported by our life experienced and qualified support workers, professional team including general practitioners, psychiatrists, counsellors and other health professionals as required.
With a structured program including personal hygiene, cleaning, cooking, exercise, counselling, spiritual practices, pharmacotherapy and attending the 12 step fellowships, Narcotics Anonymous and Alcoholics Anonymous.

Our clients will be set up in a buddy/mentor relationship with their peers of the therapeutic community. During the 90 days there will be a stepping up system which will allow them to take on additional responsibilities, building self esteem and confidence.
Once completed the 90 day program and stepped up through the stages, they will be assessed and follow through to Bluebird transitional housing. Allowing the clients to integrate back into society and the community while living in supported accommodation. Condition to enter the second half of the program will be attendance to the 12 step fellowships, continued counselling and encouragement to further learning, education and employment opportunities.
At Bluebird house we want to include the families and their loved ones in family therapy. We will offer to our families counselling, support and referrals to other services for ongoing treatment/support and assistance to improve the quality of life within the family.
Bluebird House would also like to operate in conjunction with the detox program offered at the Bacchus Marsh/Melton Memorial Hospital. We would like to support patients during the 7 day detox program and provide them the opportunity to attend NA and AA meetings with a qualified AOD worker.
Bluebird House will also be an aftercare facility for Bacchus Marsh/Melton Memorial Hospital patients, offering ongoing support for those patients who complete the 7 day detox program. It is vital that patients have the ongoing care and support upon exiting detox. We are more than hopeful that we can obtain enough funding to get Bluebird House off the ground.
Dependence is not caused by moral failing or a lack of will power. Nor is it a simple thing to overcome. But it can be overcome and even seemingly hopeless situations can be completely turned around. Success begins with walking in the door and we want to light a path at the crossroad for people who are seeking professional support to create a new life.
