More about Belmont 16ft Sailing Club

The Belmont Sailing Club was established in 1922 at a meeting held in the old "White Wings Pavilion" on the Belmont Bay waterfront. The first rule book shows on its front page the name as "The Belmont (Lake Macquarie) Yacht Club, Established 1922" however, Rule 1 states that "The Club shall be called The Belmont Sailing Club". The first President of the Club was Mark C. Reid

A starter's book shows the first official race was on the 7th October 1922 with the wind being from the north-east and the weather fine. The winner of the race was 'Clift' sailed by Jim Parker & crew.

The first clubhouse was built on Brookes Parade, over the water, opposite Sharp Street. The clubhouse was completed in 3 weeks, built soley by voluntary labour and effort of our first members. It was officially opened on 7th October 1923. A new clubhouse was built on the current site, over Mill Creek, in 1953.
