The Behavioural and Evolutionary Ecology Research (BEER) Group is situated within the School of Biological Sciences at the University of Tasmania. It is comprised of a range of researchers and postgraduate students who focus broadly on understanding how behaviour enables animals to address the challenges put forward by their environment and the consequences of this for evolutionary change. Within this overarching theme, the BEER group addresses several key research themes including:
The Origins of Family Living
Maternal Thermal Effects
Sex Allocation and Determination
Global Climate Change
Causes and Consequences of Hybridisation
Colonisation Dynamics in Invasive Species
Plus many others...
To do this, we use a range of different study species and employ a variety of methods including long term field data and large-scale experimental approaches, as well as theoretical, comparative and molecular approaches. People interested in joining the BEER group are always welcome.
