Auburn is a suburb in western Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. Auburn is located 19 kilometres west of the Sydney central business district and is in the local government area of Cumberland Council, having previously been the administrative centre of Auburn Council.Auburn prides itself as one of the most multicultural communities in Australia. The traditionally immigrant Anglo-Celtic European population has slowly been replaced by a high percentage of immigrants from Turkish, Lebanese and Vietnamese backgrounds.In 2012, Auburn was identified as the suburb with the highest number of drive-by shooting incidents in the Sydney Region, coming in at 34 incidents in the five years between 2007 and 2012.
