Art Farm Birchs Bay

Art Farm Birchs Bay is an annual outdoor sculpture exhibition at Five Bob Farm.

The idea of the sculpture trail came about as a means of getting people out of their café seats, and out on the farm paths and forest tracks. If they were daunted by the idea of all that walking – give them some seats along the path! And why not ask Tasmanian artists and makers to make us some – each in their own way of course.

So in 2006 ‘benchmarking’ was born – at the time a modish expression for covering bureaucratic backsides – and this idea was all about backsides - so there we had it.

The Sculpture Prize is held annually, from Good Friday to the end of June. It is a unique, natural and rural gallery, spread along 1.5km of native forest, grassland and farmland terrain. Parts of the trail are steep and with loose rocky surfaces. The trail is not suited to prams and small children will find parts of the bushwalk challenging. Allow 45-1hr. Dogs on leads welcome.

Each year around twenty sculptures are exhibited on the trail - We ask people to make a small donation to help keep the track maintained and to leave us a vote for their favourite piece, so we can award a prize for the Popular Choice.
