Angus Smyth Lawyer

From the turf to our surf, Angus Smyth grew up in Tamworth and followed the yellow brick road to Armidale where he attended high school and then university.

For all those Coffs Harbour locals, it’ll be music to your ears to find out Angus first moved to Coffs Harbour in 1993 to assume no other than the licensee and manager role at the Hoey Moey.

A shining star in our Mbt flock, Angus started with Mbt Lawyers in October 2013 after leading a distinguished and diversified career. He started out working in pubs and while we think he may have found the holy grail with this profession, he couldn’t sustain the high and started working in the Pay Television and Information Technology before supersizing his vocation by running his family’s McDonalds operations in Coffs Harbour for 4 years (yum yum).

We’re sad to say that at this point Angus crossed to the dark side and started working in law firms. He was employed by a national law firm for over 5 years prior to starting with our (distinguished) office.

Along the journey, Angus completed a Bachelor of Financial Administration through University of New England and a Bachelor of Laws through Macquarie University in 2011 before being admitted to the NSW Supreme Court as a Solicitor in June 2012 at the tender age of 40 years and 1 week. We think it’s worth mentioning that Angus’ qualifications were obtained while working full-time and raising a growing family (featuring six adorable children).

A wholesome country boy, Angus is a firm believer in supporting the local community and is currently the President of the Coffs Harbour Junior Rugby Union and an accredited referee. (We ‘re told) he enjoys hearing from supporters who know the laws of the game better than he does so feel free to test these boundaries when next you see him. Despite being land bound for a good part of his life, Angus is also a patrolling member of the Coffs Harbour Surf Lifesaving Club as well as a member of the Club’s Finance and Administration Committee.

You will also find him performing as MC at a number of community events. Between his community service activities and his children, Angus (and his wife) dream of the hobbies they used to have before being so blessed by their progeny.
