Amphlett Lane

In honour of the late Australian musician Chrissy Amphlett, following a global petition started in May 2013, the laneway was unanimously approved by Melbourne City Council in July 2014. Amphlett Lane was officially opened on 18th February 2015 & is situated at the top end of Little Bourke Street, Melbourne, between Elizabeth & Swanston Streets.

We have posted news & photos of every stage of the process, beginning with the sad announcement of the passing of Chrissy Amphlett on 21st April 2013. Following the worldwide outpouring of grief, a petition to establish a lasting memorial for Chrissy was set up by journalist Jessica Adams. The petition was presented to Melbourne Council by Chrissy's husband Charley Drayton & her cousin Patricia Amphlett (singer Little Pattie) in July. Later that month Melbourne City Council voted unanimously to support the proposal. The search was then on to find a suitable un-named lane in the Melbourne CBD to be named Amphlett Lane in honour of Chrissy.
