More about Ambulance Private TAS

Patient Transport

With a fleet of approximately 25 vehicles involved in stretcher transfers around Tasmania, we are proud to be the largest independent operator in the State. We move patients between hospitals and homes. We move patients to and from appointments, x-rays, airports, podiatrists, optometrists, dentists, and the list goes on. We operate around the clock, 7 days a week and every day of the year.

Whilst the majority of transfers are paid by hospitals, we have a number of cases where individuals or their families will pay for our services. We can also provide a more compehensive service where we remain with the patient for the entire time, ensuring they have someone to relate to for the entire period.

We hold the only agreement in Tasmania with the Department of Veterans Affairs. This enables DVA Gold Card holders and other eligible veterans to receive transport at no cost. Whilst very proud of achieving this agreement, we recognise we are not allowed to advertise under the terms of the agreement.

Sports and Corporate Events

Whilst the majority of our work involves patient movements, during the weekend it all slows down. It is in this period the majority of our sporting cover takes place. We only too well understand the pressures on small sporting groups to comply with legal requirements and have set our rates to cover the staff wages plus an allowance for the ambulance to keep our prices as low as possible.

We cover sporting as diverse as horse trials to triathlons, from motorsport to netball, from fun runs to football. We provide coverage for school groups at the same time as we provide cover for corporate customers with special requirements. We have two very small special event ambulances you may have seen at a number of venues, one is a crowd-pleasing mini moke ambulance and the other an all-electric ambulance based on an extended golf cart. The electric “medicart” has been well received at a variety of events, but especially at Blundstone Arena where it provides cover for players in major cricket and football matches.

International Patient Transport

Over the last 17 years we have been involved in a number of national and international patient movements. We noted the high margins operators were placing on patient travel, and the apparent reluctance to use the commercial carriers to lower costs. We have moved patients around Australia and to and from locations such as the UK, Africa, China, Taiwan, and the US at prices well below the cost of dedicated aircraft. Whilst appreciating there are logistical issues with linking commercial carriers around the world, we have developed a rapport with a number of those carriers who understand our requirements. We have specialised knowledge of the issues in moving patients across the Bass Strait and are happy to discuss transfer options. We invite travel insurance patients and families to call.
