Albert Street Uniting Church

The present Albert Street Church building was opened in 1889, but the history of its people goes back to when the first Methodist congregation met in Brisbane in 1847.
This church was regarded as the mother of Queensland Methodism and has been the scene of many historic events. Among these were state and national Conferences of the Methodist Church, and the ordination of its Ministers.
In demonstrating God’s love for all people, the Church formed Wesley Mission Brisbane in 1907 to aid the poor and lonely. The Mission’s ministry expanded in the 1930s by opening its first home for aged people in Chermside Garden Settlement. The Mission is now engaged in a very wide range of support activities in our community.
While valuing our Methodist heritage, in 1977 Albert Street’s people voted strongly to join with kindred Christian churches to become part of the Uniting Church in Australia. It is in this spirit of inclusiveness that we welcome all to our church.
