More about Ainslie School

Ainslie School is Canberra’s oldest continuous public primary school, founded in1927, it is rich with history and tradition. Our heritage listed buildings are a significant landmark in the area. Parents and Carers of Ainslie students are vitally interested in the education of their children and keen to be involved in the school. Many contribute high levels of expertise to enrich the teaching and learning programs.

The main purpose of our school is learning, for students and staff. The quality of teaching is the most important factor in promoting student learning and our improvement efforts are concentrated on being better teachers. The curriculum, which is undergoing the incorporation of the Australian Curriculum, is delivered in an Integrated Inquiry model, with the Walker Approach a feature of the Kindergarten program. In our preschools, Reid and Baker Gardens, the highly effective, play based program is married to the national Early Years Learning Framework to build early literacy and mathematics skills and prepare students for Kindergarten.

The Ainslie School community is diverse with students coming from a wide range of backgrounds and experiences. Almost a quarter of our students speak English as Another Language or Dialect (EALD) and they bring their valuable perspective to enrich our culture. Our Japanese program is highly regarded and is made more effective by our access to the Japanese Teacher’s Assistant Program which involves our hosting a native Japanese speaker for most of the year. Ainslie is an award winning school in music and the performing arts and is recognised for its work towards reconciliation.
