More about 95 espresso open mic

95 espresso is thrilled to be the first venue in Acland Street to have a weekly musician's open mic.

Free entry.

Tony is your host and will make you feel welcome and comfortable to help prepare you for your best possible performance. This is the first open mic in Acland Street, in the heart of Melbourne’s thriving music scene and will soon sit apart from the rest.

An open mic which gives preference to original artists and compositions. We like unique individuals regardless of your ‘ability’. We will steer away from the ‘popularity contest’ mentality. Covers will be tolerated but no “wonder wall’, if you know what I mean. There are plenty of other open mics for you. We want it to be a place to meet your peers as much as somewhere to play. Melbourne’s open mic network is vast. We will introduce you to similar performers and make sure you feel like part of the crew.

The management are kindly offering two standard drinks per performer as well as complimentary bowls of chips around The cafe also offers a special open mic menu as well as it’s restaurant quality menu of snacks and meals.

We will reserve spots for walk-ins. Open mics that are booked out well ahead means you know exactly what to expect. We will make sure our night remains spontaneous (i.e. exciting) by reserving a number of selected times during the night. You need to turn up for these! First in, best dressed.

Tony provides a PA which has already proven to be the best open mic sound around. Using a Yamaha PA with a powered sub-woofer, We consider every performance a ‘gig’ so will adjust the sound during your performance and add the perfect amount of reverb to your sound. Crystal clear top end with ‘mo-fo’ bass response will give you an awesome sound, thereby giving you the confidence to give us your best show. Make sure your friends have their camera phones ready!

The cafe is very cramped so unfortunately we can not accommodate a drum kit. A cajon drum is ok. There will be two vocal mics on boom stands available for vocals. Please bring your own instruments. A small keyboard will fit but you need to leave the ‘88’ at home. We encourage you to be professional so the usual thing about being prepared means a lot to us. Knowing that you are the next act on, checking your instrument and when you get on stage, not muttering the words ‘I have no idea what I’m gonna play”.

A weekly spotlight will showcase the cream of open mic performers. Each week Tony will invite a member of his open mic network. The network includes performers from open mic at Penny Blue Bar, CBD, The Inkerman Hotel, Balaclava and The Balaclava Hotel, Balaclava as well Melbourne songwriters and musicians (MSAM) MeetUp group. This will prove to be a highlight as we book the hosts of these open mics to perform!

Tony will take bookings via facebook and MeetUp during the week but please call him or send an sms for any last minute changes. Tony Tralongo – 0478 120 849
