The 5 Elements The 5 Emotions - An Introduction to Classical 5 Element Acupuncture

This seminar is an introduction to the 5 Element way of looking at Classical Acupuncture and is designed for people who have already trained in TCM style Acupuncture – really, it is a two day journey into how to treat our patients at a more spirit and emotional level.

First we start with some history of Acupuncture and how different lines of thought developed over the last 5000 years. We look at the Law of Mother/Child and the difference between symptoms and signs in our diagnostic techniques. Then we introduce the idea of a constitutional element; one element that each person has that is their strength and challenge in their own health and growth as a person. Then we start to look at how we can discovery this element in each of us.

First we listen to sounds of the voice and how each element type will have a different sound as the element is in and out of balance. We get to listen to recordings of different voices and have a go at listening to each other in groups.

Then we go on to the seasons and see how the 5 Elements create the 5 seasons, discovering how nature can teach as so much about our patients. The next sign we look at is colour; and find out by looking at what level the colour is showing from on the face that it can indicate what element is showing as a symptom and which actually the cause of a person’s discomfort is.

Then we do some work around odour and find what is odour and where it is in the treatment room. What can this sign tell us about our clients? Then we do some major work around rapport. What is rapport and how can we learn to meet our clients more effectively when working with them? For example, what does a person with distressed Earth element want from us? How can we help them feel a better level of trust with us and how even just being able to meet someone on this level can contribute to their healing? Great stuff!

The second day we move more into the art of acupuncture itself. The morning is spent on blocks to treatment, what gets in the way of treatment being effective. Firstly we look at one of the most ancient ideas in T.C.M. - Possession. What the ancient Chinese were actually talking about and how rooting someone's Shen can be the treatment that turns all the other treatments around. Then we look at a concept called Aggressive Energy, somewhat similar to the idea of Evil Qi and how to check and drain this when we think it is present. Then we move on to a bit of a pulse workshop and look at the idea of Entry - Exit blocks. These are Channel level blocks which help people drop down into more emotional level stuff and can empower people to grow and change. So we look at these how and when to use them and how to find them on the pulses.

In the afternoon we go on to look at the Spirits of the Points and why some them acupuncture have them names they do and how with intent we can use these ancient names to support our clients in their own growth. There are some beautiful points, nearly ignored by modern TCM that can make such a difference to a person and our treatments. Finally we look at how to treat with a person’s constitutional element in mind. The three parts to a treatment and how Source, Junction and Accumulation point contribute to our treatments.

You will receive a 40 page workbook on all of the above. Most of the TCM trained practitioners who have did the course last year found all this information exciting and new and have been able to integrate it into their daily practice; and most have moved on to do some of the advanced days that are available.
