More about 4 Blue Butterflies

FACT or FICTION: Baby’s movements slow down during late pregnancy…
….
FICTION! It’s actually a myth! Even though it’s getting pretty squishy, bubs should still be regularly
active.

We are really excited to introduce you to the Kicklet!

Australia’s stillborn rates are shockingly high for a first world country (approximately 2,500 pr year). In the US, UK and Norway campaigns have been running to raise awareness on monitoring movements after 28 weeks gestation. Since then, the rate of stillborn babies have reduced.

Between the two of us mummies, we’ve had four births (all boys!) and neither of us can recall any importance placed on monitoring our babies movements after 28 weeks. So we decided we wanted to change this and raise awareness by creating 4 Blue Butterflies.

So, what’s a Kicklet we know you’re wondering? A Kicklet is a bracelet we’ve handmade to help pregnant women monitor their babies movements.

On average in the third trimester, you should be able to feel you baby move 10 times within 2 hours. This is where the Kicklet becomes a great tool to help you monitor those movements.

One of the main reasons we’ve embarked on creating these Kicklet’s is that if you can monitor your babies movements and get to know their pattern, you’re much more likely to become aware of a reduction of movement. Which in turn increases your likelihood of seeking medical advice as you baby might need help. Your baby’s movement is their way of communicating to you. The Kicklet supports you to listen.

Use your Kicklet by moving the stretchy charm loop over a counter bead each time you feel a kick. Baby should be giving approximately 10 kicks every 2 hours. Over time you’ll get to know your babies pattern and be able to notice if there is a reduction in kicks. Please seek medical advice if you do!

Once you’ve got your precious baby in your arms the Kicklet can double as a feeding monitor, just swap the wrist you wear it on so you know which breast baby is due to feed off, or move the tracking loop to count how many feeds baby has had throughout the day.
