White Owl Dreaming - Indigenous Art

Hi. My name is Kath. I am a proud Aboriginal Gubbi-Gubbi Woman. The white owl is my actualy family totem and Dreamtime stories told are absolutely amazing to listen to.
I have not painted all my life nor did I think I could do anything of the sort. I didn't know much about my heritage nor about my Mob.
A paintbrush was put in my hand in 2001 when my Mentor (not that I realised it at the time), Les Lawson, found out I was Indigenous and asked me if I wanted a do a painting. He made didgeridoos and was painting them himself. With guidance I found it started to come naturally and it was a very peaceful and spiritually calming activity to involve myself in. Les taught me so much and never gave up on me. He really was a great Aboriginal Man whom I'm so very blessed to have had him in my life. You may see pieces from time to time that are dedicated to him - to his loving memory.
As years went on I had a family so my painting was pushed to the side for a long while. In recent months I have really started to involve myself in finding out more about who I am and where I come from...I am only about a third of the way into my journey but I am loving every minute.
When I paint, I feel so very calm and the ideas flow straight from the soul out onto the canvas or whatever else I'm painting :)
I have a five beautiful children and a very supportive partner. I work part-time as a Disability Support Worker and absolutely love my job, the young person I support and his family.
All in all, I am a very blessed human and I want to share with you all my dreams, my hopes, my stories and take you on my journey with me as I learn more and more each and every day.
