More about Visit Woodgate Beach

Woodgate Beach is a hidden gem located between Hervey Bay and Bundaberg on the stunning Wide Bay/Fraser Coast.

The idyllic, white sandy beach is crescent-shaped and stretches 16 kilometres from the Burrum River in the south to Theodolite Creek in the north. The calm ocean waters are protected from strong swells by Fraser Island making it ideal for swimming, kayaking and paddleboarding all year round. The shallow seas here are home to dugongs and turtles during the summer and dolphins in the winter months.

Surrounding Woodgate on all landward sides is the Burrum Coast National Park (Woodgate and Kinkuna sections) which offers a variety of boardwalks and bush walking trails. The National Park offers fantastic wildlife and bird watching. One of the marked trails has a bird hide overlooking wetlands which is home to many native water birds. Woodgate is also renowned for kangaroos hopping about town and grazing on the locals' green lawns. The National Park also has numerous 4WD tracks, including some with beach access.

The paved walking and cycle track runs the length of the township along the foreshore is perfect for those morning and evening walks. Beachfront picnic and BBQ facilities are dotted along the foreshore offering shady retreats to enjoy the spectacular ocean views.

Woodgate is popular with fishing enthusiasts with a variety of fishing spots to pick from – offshore fishing, beach fishing, river/creek fishing, depending on the weather and tides. For the more serious both the Burrum River and Theodolite Creek are equipped with boat ramps.

There is something for everyone at Woodgate – whether you are looking for relaxation and a taste of old fashioned beach holidays or adventure and activities to keep the kids and ‘young at heart’ busy.

The town is well catered for with the Bowling Club, Hotel/Pub and Cafés offering dining and entertainment and the small supermarket, pharmacy, hardware offering all your daily needs.

A full range of accommodation is on offer to suit all tastes and budgets - national park camping, caravan/tourist park offering sites and cabin/villas, and a variety holiday apartments and affordable family holiday homes to luxury beachfront accommodation.
