More about Timber Tales

Ref. Canowindra Phoenix April 2017:

(...) One of the best kept secrets in the area is a little shop that re-opened in Cargo mid January this year: Timber Tales.
Carmen McNab, the switched on young lady who runs the show, has been looking for a place to open a coffee bar and gift shop in Central West NSW for a while. Her late husband Murray was a Canowindra boy, that’s why her heart is knitted to the area, she says. “Before Christmas last year I worked for a few months at a coffee shop in Longreach QLD. Man, I missed the hills.. Any hills! But I learned to appreciate living and working in a small country community. Back to basics where people are friendly, give a helping hand when needed, love their dogs and farming toys and only get stressed when the wife can’t back a trailer!”
The hills and windy roads around Bathurst-Orange remind Carmen a lot of the Southern part of Germany where she grew up. Exploring Cabonne area, she fell in love with the old General Store in Cargo, a gem from 1879. She knocked on the door next door and asked if the previous owners of Rustic Notions Café, Heidi and Dave Stedman, would consider to rent it out. The answer was yes! and the work began.
“I called it Timber Tales because there is a lot of wood in here, it is a warm material and welcoming and I feel everything here tells a story... The old wooden floor boards, the original front counter, old mate getting a cuppa on the way to a clearing sale.”
Walking through the old entrance door will give you the feeling to walk be taken back in time. Besides yummy cakes and freshly roasted coffee that you can smell before you enter the shop, Timber Tales sells a selection of unique giftware, local produce, art & craft and handmade recycled furniture by Rustic Notions.
“My favorite time of the day are early mornings when the town is waking up. I open at 7 and start getting my regular customers now which is great, often they ring on their way to work and their coffee will be waiting for them when they come through Cargo.”
