A doula, or birth attendant, is a woman offering non-medical support, guidance, and information to parents during pregnancy, childbirth, and throughout the post-natal period. The doula service fills an important gap for women and their caregivers, and has been developed over the years to respond to the ever increasing requests from woman to have more support and continuity of care before, during, and after the birth of their children.
Birth is one of the most awe inspiring and powerful moments in life. Birth is full of challenges; new information and emotions, love, fear, hope, strength, and courage. Having a doula present for support provides so much for the expecting parents. Having someone who you know and trust at your birth, who doesn’t leave you side, brings confidence, encouragement, and a sense of safety allows the labouring woman to relax into her birth, and allows her partner to relax and support her.
Sunshine Coast Birth Doulas each have a current: Police Check, Blue Card, First Aid, CPR, and up to date immunisations, including whooping cough.
