Poll Dorset rams relieably produce prime lambs that are turned off with excellent yield at 5 months, With minimum effort and maximum return.The Stud was founded in 2008 when the former 'Bark Hut' Poll Dorset stud was purchased from Terry & Thelma Bennett.
Stokes Bay Genetics aims to be a very advanced modern stud uttilizing all new technologies. We are experencied in using electronic tags for data collection, full pedigree recording, automatic weighing & drafting.
All our Poll Dorsets have been DNA tested using the latest technolagy from Pfizer Animal Gentics to analyse pedigree and to identify gene markers, marketed as LoinMax and WormStar . LoinMax is a DNA test for a gene which is naturally found in Poll Dorsets which increases the size of the loin muscle, the most valuable cut of lamb. Sheep identified to carry WormStar markers will thrive under a worm burden resulting in much higher production.
Lambplan has been a huge change for the sheep industry allowing producers to bench mark the rams they are buying against other studs and breeds. Through the use of australian breeding values clients gain much more confidence that the rams they buy will breed lambs they want.
