More about —spectrum

—spectrum
Is a single day community happening, exploring the idea that creative engagement enhances a sense of wellbeing,
with art, poetry, dance, film, meditation, yoga and conversation. www.spectrumevent.com.au

As part of this day, a dancer of the Bat-Sheva dance company, and a certified Gaga/people movement teacher will travel especially for —spectrum, from Israel, to lead two fantastic Gaga/people movement language classes.
"We are happy to partner with urbanframeworks to bring Gaga, Ohad Naharin's movement language, to —spectrum in western Australia. The language of Gaga originated from the belief in the healing, dynamic, ever-changing power of movement. The awareness, sensitivity, and availability that Gaga proposes is a natural complement to —spectrum’s theme. We welcome the local community to join us for two sessions exploring pleasure, effort, delicacy, groove, and passion to move."
Gaga Movement Ltd.
Here is a link to a Gaga/people class: www.spectrumevent.com.au/gagapeople
Gaga is a movement language which the internationally celebrated choreographer Ohad Naharin developed over the course of many years and which is applied in daily practice and exercises by the Batsheva Dance Company members. No previous dance experience is needed for Gaga/people classes, which are open to all people ages 16+, regardless of their background in dance or movement.

The event’s centrepiece is a space manipulation by designer Osnat Harlap that is designed to present the artwork of Eveline Kotai in a setting outside a fixed gallery context.
"What I’m enjoying most about being involved in this site specific installation is the unexpected sense of play that comes with collaboration. As a team we provide each other with little sparks that take us on imaginative detours, but also carry us to the next resolution. The added bonus will be experiencing the work outside the conventional gallery setting and I’m hoping this new dimension will offer a different level of engagement ”.Eveline Kotai
The artwork and installation may be viewed at anytime between 7am and 3 pm, and other events will be woven throughout the day.

Poet Roland Leach will deliver his curated lunchtime poetry event with friends; Fremantle’s DADAA will show an inspiring selection of films made in collaboration with people with disability, and Yoga & Meditation Guide Lara Dwyer will lead sessions in both.

—spectrum is designed to complement an international forum about mental health by www.meetingforminds.com.au
The physical part of —spectrum, which will house Eveline Kotai’s exhibition, will be installed and enjoyed by the forum,
as the two events take place on consecutive days.

MeetingForMinds will hold a breakfast session at —spectrum where the public will be invited to engage in conversation with the founders as well as their national and international guests, including professor Ian Hickie head of the University of Sydney’s Brain and Mind Centre as a Co-Director for Health and Policy, and one of Australia's first National Mental Health Commissioners.

—spectrum will happen on Saturday, May 28, at the B shed, Victorai Quay, Fremantle Port.
Free and ticketed events. For information, bookings and details please see www.spectrumevent.com.au
