Rupakalaa Art & Yoga

As a certified yoga teacher with a BA in Visual Arts and a post-graduate diploma in painting, I have decided to bring together these two well-loved activities in my life and to offer them through workshops and retreats as a way of exploring drawing and painting through the practice of yoga.

The basic yoga practices taught are 'Heart-oriented', whereby participants are guided towards an expression of the pose from qualities and principles which help to reconnect us with our deepest presence.

These qualities, which we all share, include beauty, freedom and expansion, so the poses become an artistic expression of our own essence.

Just as we have principles which in our yoga practice help us to express beauty, freedom and expansion through the medium of our mind/body, we have similar principles for making art.

These principles help us to formulate the vocabulary of art, or the elements of art making.

In our short yoga practices we'll focus on the principles of both art and yoga, because they all arise from the same place.

When we begin to understand these through the energy we create in our bodies, we can more effectively use the elements of art to confidently create an artwork which is beautifully self-expressive.
