Rob Tuckwell has long been regarded as one of the leading Architectural and Commercial Photographers in Australia. With more than 20 years experience he has worked with many of the (world’s) nation’s top architects, designers and creative agencies.
Rob’s work has been widely published in international publications including The New York Times, The Observer, The Sunday Times, Vogue, Hello and Time magazine.
His work is defined by clear and concise expression of ideas, graphically composed and beautifully executed.
Rob has also been commissioned to illustrate winning submissions at the Australian Institute of Architect’s Awards:
Australian Institute of Architect’s Commendation Award in the Heritage Conservation category, Anzac Memorial, Sydney, for the Government Architect’s Office Heritage Group.
National Trust Heritage Award for Government/Corporate Projects valued over $1million, Anzac Memorial, Sydney, for the Government Architect’s Office Heritage Group.

Portrait photography is Rob’s other passion. He shows a strong empathy with his subjects and strives to capture their ‘spirit’ in his work. His outstanding reputation has led to his appointment as the Official Photographer to the Governor of NSW. In this capacity he is required to produce high quality images under very exacting circumstances, see the Vice Regal gallery.
Situated only minutes from the heart of Sydney’s CBD, Rob’s studio in Artarmon is spacious and adaptable to suit the needs of his clients.

Rob is a graduate of Sydney College of the Arts (1982)
As part of his final year at SCA, Rob acted as Assistant Curator of Photography with Gael Newton at The Art Gallery of NSW. Later that year he was offered the position of Assistant Gallery Co-ordinator at the Australian Centre for Photography. In his position there, Rob curated many exhibitions and was part of the founding editorial committee for the Centres publication “Photofile” which is now in its 24th year of publication.

In 1984 Rob took a position as Workshop Director at the ACP which allowed him to teach and to co-ordinate the Centres workshop programme.

In 1986 Rob left the ACP to become a member of Rapport Photo Agency and begin his commercial photography career.
Rob established his own studio in 1989.

In 1998 Rob was honored to be appointed by then Governor Gordon Samuels AC CVO as the Official Photographer to the Governor of NSW. Rob continues in this capacity today, having formed a close working relationship with Her Excellency Professor Marie Bashir AC CVO.
This enduring appointment is a testament to Rob’s prowess as a photographer to produce high quality images under very exacting circumstances.
